Hike for Clean Water - Wollongong to Sydney

Students from Maitland Christian School & Arise Christian College have committed to hiking a mammoth 100km from Wollongong to Sydney over five days in August.

Our goal is to raise funds to build a new water well in northern Uganda with Love Mercy Foundation.

Women & children walk up to 10km to collect water in remote northern Uganda. Often, when they get to the water source, it isn't even clean.

Our students are mindful of this and will walk similar distances each day, aiming to raise $4,000 to go towards providing access to clean water for a community in need. Will you support us? Perhaps you can donate a dollar for every kilometre we hike?

How does access to clean water reduce poverty?

Women and children in Africa spend approx. 200Women and girls in Uganda spend up to 6 hours a day, every day, collecting water for their families.

The time it takes to collect this water is preventing girls from accessing an education - an education that will give them opportunities that poverty does not.

For women, they are the primary caretakers of the land and family. Walking far distances to collect water takes away from tending to their crop and caring for their family. The crops are essential - they are the main source of food and income for a family.

Collecting water from a source that is far away, and often isn't clean, takes so much time that often the entire family suffer.
